PRO GUIDES
MEET OUR CFA PRO GUIDE TEAM
The CFA Pro Guide Team is composed of professional fly fishing guides. Fly fishing guides are the eyes and ears on our local rivers and streams. Guides see it all out there, and likewise, they are asked to deliver just as much in return to their clients.
While spending all day in a river certainly has its benefits, for those who have guided before, they know success comes only after a level of knowledge & preparedness has been achieved that most clients don't equate with "the best job in the world". But knowledge & preparedness will only get you to the morning meet & greet in the parking lot when you're guiding because teacher, storyteller and facilitator becomes your new job title out in the field.
Clients expect one thing & one thing only out of a paid fishing trip, a good time. For 99.9% of those clients, that involves getting fish in the net. And since you're busy detangling knots, getting flies out of trees, telling fish stories, and preparing a gourmet lunch, the need to fish better flies that last longer becomes an absolute must.
There are no do-overs in guiding. The client is here today and they expect results now. While yes, you can try again tomorrow, you can also kiss your tip for the day goodbye with a 'do-over'. Colorado Fly Angler has assembled a team of guides that truly understand that with all the pressures of guiding, it's imperative that you trust what's tied to the end of your line.
Any guide worth half their rate can tell you that the $3.00 fly at the end of the rig is far more important than the rod & reel setup casting it, no matter the cost or no matter who's casting it. So when our guide pros tell us which CFA flies are catching fish for their clients, we listen because we know they've chosen our flies for the most important decision of the day. When you decide to become a fly fishing guide, you decide to accept the pressure. When you choose to work with CFA bugs, you choose to be a successful guide.
Fly fishing guides will always be near and dear to our heart here at CFA. Colorado Fly Angler was founded by, and is still operated by, a guide. Because of that fact alone, we fully support the fly fishing guide community and always will. Fly fishing guides enrich clients' experiences and serve as the whistle blowers for the conservation of our streams and lakes.
We encourage you to book a trip with a member of our CFA Pro Guide Team to experience a better guided trip outing, fueled by CFA flies. Please visit and follow them on Instagram to follow them along as they continue to choose Colorado Fly Angler for their clients.

JEFF IRELAND
Jeff Ireland lives and recreates in the great state of Maine. When not spending time with his wife, kids and two grandkids, he spends as much time as he can in the great Maine outdoors. Fly fishing, fly tying and teaching fly casting are his passions.
Jeff has spent 30 years as an educator and brings all that he has learned from those years to his fly fishing pursuits. Jeff guides for trout and landlocked salmon in the spring and fall as an independent guide. In the warmer summer months he guides for smallies and pike while working for an outfitter.

JEFF'S FAVORITE CFA FLIES
"Jeff loves all things terrestrial. So it's not shocking that CFA's array of Chubbies are among his favorites. He loves the traditional Chubby Chernobyls, but also the Mini Chubbies and Nitro Chubbies as well as the Guide's Choice version. Throw a B.A.F. style nymph off the bend, and you'll see him smile!
Jeff came to us by way of a guided trip that him and his son took with the CFA founder a few years back. Ever since, it's become a valued relationship that's evolved to include Jeff as part of our fly manufacturing team. So, make sure to check out Jeff's bio on our Fly Tyers page as well, as he is also a pro tyer for Colorado Fly Angler.

DAMIEN MARTINEZ-DOCKERY
My name is Damien Martinez, and I’m a fishing guide from Fort Collins, Colorado. Growing up along the Front Range, I spent countless hours on the Poudre River with my grandfather, learning the ins and outs of traditional fishing. Those early days on the water shaped my love for the sport, but as I got older and made connections within the fishing community, fly fishing completely took over my life.
What started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion and before long I knew I wanted to guide. The idea of sharing my knowledge, helping others improve, and spending my days on the water were too good to pass up. That dream soon became a reality, and today I guide for St. Peters Fly Shop and Golden Fly Shop.
Even when I’m not working, you’ll still find me on the water. Whether it’s a local tailwaters or bushwhacking to remote cutties, fishing isn’t just my job, it’s a way of life.

Damien's way of finding his way to the CFA Pro Guide Team is one of our favorites. Damien had previously worked for our founder at a ski resort a long long long time ago, before he even fly fished. One day, our founder mentioned to him that he should try fly fishing, as he was already guiding himself. Several years later, having lost contact of one another, the two ran into each other at The Fly Fishing Show in Denver, CO. Damien visited the CFA booth, as he had been a fan for a while. He then notified our founder that he had gone ahead and took his advice on fly fishing. The rest is history.

MATT REINCKE
My passion for fishing began in Michigan, where I grew up surrounded by the Great Lakes and a family culture that valued time on the water. I spent my early years spin fishing; ice fishing in Canada, shark fishing in Florida, and everything in between. But I became especially drawn to trout and salmon.
At age 12, I began teaching myself how to fly fish and tie flies. I often fished iconic Michigan rivers like the Au Sable, Manistee, and Pere Marquette. This obsession led me to attend the University of Colorado Boulder for its world-class trout water and outdoor access. I joined the CU Fly Fishing Club my freshman year and became president by sophomore year, growing our membership to over 250 people and building relationships with local fly shops.

That same year, I began guiding and working at Rocky Mountain Anglers, where I still work today. I’m passionate about teaching anglers of all levels, creating memorable fishing experiences, and sharing knowledge. While I enjoy all types of fishing, I primarily target trout. My favorite methods include dry fly and streamer fishing in rivers, streams, and remote alpine lakes.
Whether I am on the water, in the fly shop, at the vice, or helping to coordinate trips for CU’s fly fishing club, I carry the same stoke about fishing around everywhere.
